The Enartes Project includes twenty artists and aims at reaching the countryside of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It promotes exhibitions of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics along with workshops. This project has been developed by Encontro das Artes (Cultural Gallery, Rua dos Andradas 1755, room 71, Porto Alegre) in association with Educational and Cultural Offices, and other cultural institutions from many different towns. With that kind of support, we can present the work of Rio Grande do Sul artists to the many different communities that show interest in taking part in this project, which aims, by means of exhibitions and workshops, to establish a deeper integration between the community and the artists, and ultimately, between people and art. The exhibitions may also be held along with local events such as municipal or religious festivals so that our artists become more widely known in their own state. The result we have is art visiting all corners of Rio Grande do Sul. As the singer and songwriter Milton Nascimento wrote, "the artist needs to go where the people are." This way, the Enartes Project wants art to be as close to our people as possible, and even reach other states in Brazil and other countries as well.

The Enartes Project has existed for seven years and it has already held exhibitions in Erechin (Twice), Santo Ângelo, Ijuí, Tapes, Santa Cruz do Sul (Three times), Pelotas, Rio Grande, Florianópolis, San Ignácio Mini (Argentina), Porto Alegre, São Leopoldo, Granado, Nova Petrópolis, Bento Gonçalves, Frederico Westfallen, Novo Hamburgo, Santa maria, São Miguel das Missões, Madrid (Spain), Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Porto Alegre (Miro, Art Gallery). The ‘Gaúchos’ (Rio Grande do Sul dwellers) had the opportunity of seeing the exhibitions firsthand.

In 2000, we were invited by the president of the University of Santiago de Compostela, when that city was elected the capital of culture, to show a total of 40 paintings by 20 local artists as a tribute to the 500 years since the discovery of Brazil. The exhibition opened on March 10, 2000 at the Fonseca Palace (a 14th century construction; one of the most visited places in the city after the Cathedral).

In 2001, we were invited by the Spanish Consulate to take part in the 500th birthday celebrations of King Carlos V, exhibiting fifteen banners (0.70 x 2.10), painted by the artists of the Enartes Project. The works were shown in Porto Alegre, Santa Cruz and Gramado. In that same year, we also exhibited 30 paintings – oil and acrylic on canvas, 0.80 x 0.80 – with the topic ‘Jesuitical Missions in Brazil’. That exhibition inaugurated the FAMURS Cultural Space on July 26 in celebration for its 25th anniversary. Invited by the House of Representatives of Guimarães, Portugal, we took this exhibition to the Museum of Contemporary Primitive Art on October 12, 2001. On November 8, ‘Jesuitical Missions in Brazil’ was presented in Madrid, Spain, at the House of Brazil.

In the year 2002, we contacted many cities in Europe which were willing to hold future exhibitions. Some have already been confirmed: Berlin and Landsberg-Bayern in Germany. There is also the possibility of visiting Spain once again; this time, the exhibition would be taken to the cities of La Corunã and Valencia.
